Anika Washburn of CWRU Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University junior midfielder Anika Washburn (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Academy) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America® Division III Women's Soccer First Team, based on her outstanding achievements both on the pitch and in the classroom.

Washburn becomes the second Spartan this year to win the award, joining Antonio Ionadi (men's basketball) and the 121st person in the history of Case Western Reserve athletics to receive the CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition.

In addition, she is just the second player in the history of the women's soccer program to earn the honor in multiple years, joining former Spartan Sandra Oh (1995, 1996 and 1997). Washburn was an Academic All-America Second Team selection last year as well.

Washburn started all 19 games for the Spartans during her sophomore campaign in 2019, as she led the team with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists. She also contributed a team-high seven game-winning goals throughout the season. Washburn's 14 goals and 33 points were a new single-season program record, while her seven game winning goals were also a program record. In addition, she earned UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week honors on three separate occasions during the season.

Washburn, who became eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team after earning an Academic All-District selection in June, carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average as a Computer Science major at CWRU. She is a two-time UAA All-Academic honoree, has been named to the D3Soccer.com All-America Second Team, the All-University Athletic Association First Team, and the All-Great Lakes Region First Team, while also being selected as the UAA Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.

Case Western Reserve's 119 Academic All-Americans to begin the year ranked 11th among NCAA Division III institutions and are 37th among all collegiate athletic programs.
