Two NYU Swimmers Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

From NYU Athletics

Seniors Honore Collins of the women's swimming & diving team and Giorgio DelGrosso of the men's swimming & diving team have been selected CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.

The At-Large Academic All-America Team consists of student-athletes from a combination number of sports: fencing, golf, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. Other sports (ie: basketball, track & field, soccer, etc., have their own individual All-America Teams).

Collins completed her career as arguably the most accomplished athlete in Violet history. Her final campaign included seven All-America honors, five titles at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships (where she was named Swimmer of the Year), NYU Senior Athlete of the Year accolades, and the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award. Over her four years, Collins earned 19 All-America accolades, produced five individual team records and one relay mark. As a freshman, she became the first NYU swimmer (male or female) to win a National Championship after recording a victory in the 200-yard IM at the NCAA Championships. Collins tripled that accomplishment as a junior by winning three national titles (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Butterfly), setting two NCAA records (200 and 400 IM), and earning CSCAA (College Swim Coaches Association of America) National Swimmer of the Year honors.

DelGrosso capped off a spectacular career of his own in 2019-20 by totaling four All-America honors. Named UAA Co-Swimmer of the Year after winning two events at the 2020 UAA Championships, DelGrosso set team records in both the 100-yard breaststroke (53.23) and the 200-yard breaststroke (1:56.55). He also placed third in three other events at his final UAA competition. Over his two seasons as a Violet, DelGrosso earned eight All-America honors, was awarded the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award and produced three team records. As a sophomore, he earned CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention.
