The doubles pair of junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and sophomore Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) defeated the number two seed in the round of 16 at the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships on Friday, May 28. The Carnegie Mellon University duo become the first doubles pair to win their first round match since the 2011-2012 season.

Cornwall started her day in this round of 32 singles bracket where she faced junior Grace Reirmann of Bethel University. Reirmann was able to get past Cornwall, seeded seventh, by a 6-4, 6-1 score.

Hours later Cornwall and Zheng started their doubles match against juniors Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido of Tufts University. With the first set tied at 2-2, weather forced the match indoors. The pair from Tufts, who entered the match with an 8-2 record, won the first set 6-2. Cornwall and Zheng then picked up a 6-4 second-set victory before rallying from a 3-0 deficit in the third set for a 7-5 win.
