he University of Chicago women's tennis team capped off a superlative weekend with all-Maroon singles and doubles finals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Sunday.
This marks the third-straight ITA Regional that UChicago has claimed both titles. The Maroons were in dominant form throughout, posting a combined 36-2 record against non-UChicago opponents.
The singles semifinals featured three Maroons. Defending champion and No. 1-seed Sylwia Mikos defeated No. 8-seed teammate Nicole Geller by scores of 6-2, 7-5. In the other semi, No. 9-seed Miranda Yuan embarked on a tense three-set battle with the No. 6-seed from Washington University – St. Louis. Yuan came through in the clutch to prevail 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. Mikos and Yuan will meet in the ITA Regional singles final for the second-straight year.
Doubles followed a similar script. The No. 1 seeds Mikos and Shianna Guo continued their quest for a repeat ITA title by dispatching the No. 4 seeds from WashU by an 8-1 margin. On the other side of the bracket, UChicago's Perene Wang and Claudia Ng took on Yuan and Brooke Pedersen. The senior duo of Wang and Ng delivered the win 8-5 to advance to the final. The Mikos/Guo vs. Wang/Ng finals matchup will feature the past two ITA regional doubles champs (2021 and 2019).
