Emory Sets 13 Personal Records at Samford Bulldog Open

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team competed in the Samford Bulldog Open, which took place Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, AL. The meet did not feature team scoring and athletes from more than 30 institutions were in attendance.

Junior Rebekah Bondi continues to have a strong indoor season, as she sprinted to a new personal-record in the 200m Dash on Friday night, and finds herself in eighth-place on the list of individuals with the fastest 200m Dash times in Emory history. She raced to a time of 25.75 and finished in 18th-place out of 47 participants. The junior also came up with a career-best effort in the 60m Dash, as her semifinal time of 7.73 moves her up from her previous place as the fifth-fastest 60m runner in Emory history to third. Ayriel Coleman had similar success in the triple jump, as produced a personal-best mark of 11.01m to take 10th-place out of 19 jumpers.

An additional 11 personal-bests were recorded by Eagles at the competition. All four of the Emory milers turned in personal records and were paced by freshman Shana Fitzmaurice, who took seventh-place with a time of 5:23.88. Juniors Anna Morris (5:28.76) and Christina Dwier (5:38.84) were joined by freshman Lauren Anshen (5:44.93) in setting career marks in the event. In the 3000m Run, freshman Annika Urban (11:13.46) and junior Caroline Johnson (11:16.74) raced to record times for themselves. Running to a PR in the slightly longer 5000m Run was sophomore Eileen Laverty (19.36). Senior Susie Martin made her indoor season debut and raced to a top finish ahead of Laverty in the event, finishing in 19:17.19 to take third-place. Freshmen Ella Lavelle (26.75) and Claire Evans (27.13) both posted career-records in the 200m as well. The 800m Run saw junior Rachel Shanahan coast to the best time of her career, as she did it in 2:27.97. In the field, freshman Ticia King cleared 3.20m in the pole vault, which is her best height to date.
