Eight Bears Named Academic All-District

From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis had eight student-athletes from the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs selected to the Academic All-District Five team, as chosen and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bears selected include juniors Eka Jose, Katie Snodgrass and John Harry Wagner and seniors Paige Lawler, Nick Matteucci, Marco Quaroni, Jack Sebok and Sophie Watterson.

Eka Jose

Jose holds a 3.93 grade point average in molecular biology and biochemistry with an anthropology minor. Jose was named All-Region and All-America after qualifying fifth in the triple jump for the 2020 Indoor NCAA Championships. She was the 2019 Indoor and Outdoor National Champion in the triple jump, earning her the honors of Most Outstanding Women's Field Performer of the Outdoor Championships and the Women's Field Athlete of the Year. Jose holds school records in the indoor and outdoor triple jump. 

Paige Lawler

Lawler finished her senior season with a 3.65 GPA in biology after a seventh-place finish at the 2019 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships and qualifying for the NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000-meter run. She was the 2018 Cross Country National Champion and was named the Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year and the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DIII Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lawler closes out her athletic career as a nine-time Academic All-UAA honoree and a six-time All-American.

Nick Matteucci

Matteucci wrapped up his career with a 4.00 GPA in chemical engineering with a minor in energy engineering. He finished 20th at the 2019 Cross Country Championships and qualified second for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the mile and distance medley relay. Matteucci was named the 2020 UAA Most Outstanding Performer in Running Events with a first-place finish in the mile. He is a three-time Elite 90 Award winner, nine-time Academic All-UAA and a First-Team Academic All-American in 2018 and 2019. Matteucci compiled 11 All-America honors throughout his career and holds program records in the indoor mile and outdoor 1,500-meter run.

Marco Quaroni

Quaroni finished his senior year with a 3.65 GPA while majoring in economics & strategy and marketing. He finished 38th at the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships, earning All-America honors. In 2018, he was named USTFCCCA All-Academic and a UAA Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete. Quaroni earned All-Region accolades twice and Academic All-UAA honors nine times throughout his career. 

Jack Sebok

Sebok maintained a 3.91 GPA in chemical engineering with two All-America finishes in track. He was a two-time UAA Champion, earning the honor in the 2019 outdoor steeplechase and as a member of the 2020 distance medley relay. Sebok was a member of the cross country team that finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in 2019. He was a UAA Presidents Council Scholar Athletic and earned Academic All-UAA honors nine times. 

Katie Snodgrass

Snodgrass has maintained a 3.99 GPA majoring in cognitive neuroscience during her academic career. She was the UAA 5,000-meter indoor champion which earned her a spot in the National Championships and her first All-America honor. In the 2018-19 season, she earned All-UAA honors in cross country and track and has garnered six Academic All-UAA honors.

Sophie Watterson

Watterson finished her senior season with a 3.84 GPA majoring in Spanish and environmental policy after a 19th place finish at the 2019 Cross Country Championships. In the 2018 season, she finished 13th at the Cross Country Championships, helping the Bears claim the national championship. At the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, she finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run. Watterson ends her career with various accolades including six All-Region honors, two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic and a three-time All-American. 

John Harry Wagner

Wagner maintained a 3.86 GPA in electrical engineering while earning All-America honors in the 400-meter run and 4x400 relay in 2020. At the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, he was the anchor leg of the national champion 4x400 relay and broke the school record in the 400-meter run. Wagner has cumulated six UAA champion titles, five All-Region honors and four academic All-UAA honors. In 2019, he was a UAA Presidents Council Scholar Athlete and named to CoSIDA's Third-Team Academic All-America.
