Emma Griffith Makes History as First UChicago Volleyball Academic All-America Selection

From University of Chicago Athletics

University of Chicago's Emma Griffith became the first volleyball player in school history to be named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams are voted upon by the membership of CoSIDA. Recipients must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.

A law, letters & society major, Griffith led the Maroons to their most successful season ever in 2019. UChicago attained a No. 1 national ranking in the coaches' poll and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time. The junior setter was the engine of the offense that ranked ninth in the nation in kills per set (13.73). The team posted a .227 hitting percentage on the year.

Griffith's 11.01 assists per set ranked fifth in all of NCAA Division III. She also served up a team-high 57 aces. She was third on the squad in digs (352) and added 45 total blocks.
