Karley King of CWRU Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball First Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior outside hitter Karley King has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Volleyball First Team, based on her outstanding achievements both in the classroom and on the court over her career as a Spartan.

Including five honorees this fall (Dee Gose, Travis Johnston, Andrew Lease of the football team, King and Anika Washburn of the women's soccer team) Case Western Reserve University athletes across all sports have now accumulated 115 total Academic All-America awards.

In addition, King joins former Spartan Tricia McCutchan (2009, 2010, 2011) as the program's only other All-America selection in multiple years. King was an Academic All-America Second Team selection last year as well.

King, an All-UAA Academic honoree, finished the year with a.179 hitting percentage, and finished fourth on the team with 207 kills (1.99 per set). She also gathered 69 digs and 44 total blocks throughout the season. Over her four years as a Spartan, King has totaled 996 kills (2.36 per set), 274 digs and 184 total blocks.

King, who became eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team after earning an Academic All-District selection in November, carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a Biomedical Engineering major at CWRU. She has received UAA All-Academic honors three times over her career, and is a three-time Academic All-District First Team selection.

Case Western Reserve's 110 Academic All-Americans to begin the year ranked 14th-most among NCAA Division III institutions and are 44th among all collegiate athletic programs.

King and the Spartans finished the regular season with a 13-16 overall record and finished in fifth-place at the University Athletic Association Championships.
