Emma Griffith and Madison Pearson Lead UChicago AVCA All-American Honorees

The University of Chicago was well represented on the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America teams with three total selections on Tuesday.

Junior setter Emma Griffith earned First Team All-America status, senior middle hitter Madison Pearson garnered Third Team All-America accolades and senior outside hitter Anne Marie Stifter was an Honorable Mention All-American.

UChicago's previous First Team All-American in volleyball was Maren Loe in 2015. The Maroons tallied six Honorable Mention selections from 2010-18.

Griffith gained acclaim this season as one of the top setters in the country, averaging 11.01 assists per set for a total of 1,222. She orchestrated the offense to a .227 team hitting percentage, which also ranked ninth in the nation with 13.75 kills per set. Griffith's all-around game also featured 3.17 digs and 0.41 blocks per set. The junior led the Maroons in aces with 57. Her 3,723 career assists are the second-most in school history.

Pearson was a force on both sides of the net for UChicago. In her senior season, she ranked second on the team with 88 blocks (0.82 per set) and a .336 hitting percentage. Pearson averaged 2.55 kills per set while also serving up 26 aces. She completed her collegiate career ranked fourth in the program's record books with a .311 career hitting percentage and sixth in career block assists (236).

Stifter led the Maroons in kills (2.97 per set) and ranked second in digs (3.34 per set). She served up 27 aces and accumulated 56 blocks (0.46 per set). Stifter concludes her career with 1,294 digs – the eighth-most in program history.
