From Washington University Athletics
The Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country program had a stellar day at the 2019 University Athletic Association Cross Country Championship, hosted by Carnegie Mellon at Schenley Park. The No. 2 women's program tallied 24 points to win their sixth-straight UAA title.
The women's cross country title marks the 250th total conference championships won in Washington University athletic department history.
The women's squad set a blazing tail in the 6K race. Senior Paige Lawler won the individual UAA title for the second time in her career with a time of 21:49.76. Fellow senior Sophie Watterson took second with a time of 22:11.81 while junior Megan Girmscheid collected third place and a personal best at 22:13.99. Sophomore Sophie Young tallied a personal record with an 8th-place time of 22:26.22 as junior Katie Snodgrass wrapped up the Bears scoring when she crossed the finish line in 10that 22:30.17.
Freshman Ella Behrens was also named to the UAA All-Freshman Team after she turned in a time of 22:36.11 in 13th-place. Head Coach Jeff Stiles and assistant coaches Kelli Blake and Johnathan Koch were named as the 2019 UAA Women's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year.
