Fontbonne Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Bears
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University baseball team jumped out of conference play on Saturday taking on WashU. The Griffins earned a 10-8 win in game one, but fell 14-2 (7 inn.) in game two.

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University baseball team jumped out of conference play on Saturday taking on WashU. The Griffins earned a 10-8 win in game one, but fell 14-2 (7 inn.) in game two.
Game 1 Breakdown
After scoring off a throwing error in the first, the Griffins added another run later in the inning off the bat of Trey Kueper as his single brought home Braeden Dobbs making it a 2-0 game.
The Bears plated four in the second, but the Griffins answered right back in the fourth. Trey Kueper led off with a walk and moved up a base with Josh Rhiney reaching base on a fielder's choice. Eric Creech followed with an infield single which loaded up the bases.
Carter Lee reached base on a fielder's choice allowing Trey Kueper to score. Thomas Purschke doubled to left scoring Creech to tie the game. Daniel Youngblood stepped in and cleared the bases with a single to right giving Fontbonne a 6-4 advantage.
WashU, though scored two in the fourth, another in the fifth and sixth taking an 8-6 lead. In the eighth, Purschke reached base on a one out error and he was able to score on Youngblood's double to right.
After a single by Braeden Dobbs, the Griffins took a 9-8 lead on Matt Helm's double to left. Ty Kueper later scored in the inning, who pinch ran for Helm, making it a 10-8 game going into in the bottom of the ninth. Camden Coleman came in relief of David Howard and retired the side for the save.

Game 2 Breakdown
In the bottom of the second, the Bears plated eight runs on six hits highlighted by Broghan O'Connor's grand slam.
They tacked on another run in the third, but Fontbonne got an RBI double from Matt Manint in the fourth scoring Ty Kueper, who reached base on a two out double.
Fontbonne got an RBI single from Grant Staffen in the sixth, but the Bears scored three more in the bottom half going on for the 12-run win.
