WALTHAM, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis fell to the host Brandeis University Judges, 8-1 Friday afternoon as the Sharks continue their spring season in preparation for the NCAA tournament in May. First year Sofie Epshtein (Newton, Mass.) defeated Hanna Marion 7-6, 3-6, 10-6 in the No. 4 spot for the Sharks lone victory.
Senior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) fell to Ally Bernstein 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Emily Eska topped Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Maya Vasser defeated Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 position. Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) fell to Sarita Biswas 6-2, 6-2 and Marissa Lazar defeated Cathy Baker (Simsbury, Conn.) 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, Carley Cooke and Roberta Bergstein teamed up to defeat Teague and Cokely 8-2, while Lazar and Berstein defeated Reinhard and Epshtein 8-3 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3 doubles, Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio) and Downey fell to Simone Vandroff and Dylan Schlesinger 8-2 to complete the victory.
The Sharks travel to MIT on Saturday, Apr. 26 for their final match before traveling to the NCAA Tournament on May 9.
