Or Records Fifth Double-Double of Season as Tartans Fall at #1 NYU

(NEW YORK, N.Y..) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team visited the top-ranked New York University Violets on Sunday, February 11 for a University Athletic Association (UAA) game. The Violets held court and topped the Tartans, 76-54. The Tartans are now 10-12 overall and 2-9 in the UAA while the Violets move to 22-0 and 11-0.

How It Happened

  • The Tartans hit their first two shot attempts and led 5-0 two minutes into the game.
  • The Tartans were held scoreless as the Violets finished the quarter on a 21-0 run, and the Tartans missed their next 10 shots.
  • Junior Catherine Or ended the first half with a three-pointer to score 10 points to lead the Tartans who shot 7-of-33 during the first 20 minutes of play.
  • The Violets shot 50.0% from the floor, hit six three-pointers, and grabbed 26 rebounds to 18 for the Tartans in the first half to lead 42-21.
  • Each team scored 15 points in the third frame for NYU to maintain the 21-point advantage.
  • The Tartans shot 44.4% in the final quarter and dished out four assists on eight made baskets to score 18 points in the frame.
  • NYU shot 38.5% during the last 10 minutes and picked up four assists on five made baskets while hitting 9-of-10 from the foul line.

For the Tartans

  • Or finished with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field. She hit three from behind the arc for the first time this season.
  • Freshman Allie Heyer scored 12 points off the bench.
  • Or grabbed 10 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season.
  • Or and junior Anisha Chintala both led with three assists.

For the Violets

  • Morgan Morrison and Natalie Bruns each scored 15 points.
  • Bruns grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
  • Megan Bauman and Belle Pellecchia each had four assists.

Notes

  • After scoring just two points at NYU last year, Or scored 20 or more points for the fourth time this year.
