Laudick Double-Double Leads Women’s Basketball to Road Win over Piedmont, 69-54

The Emory University women's basketball team finished the semester with a 69-54 road win against the Piedmont Lions on Tuesday afternoon in Demorest, Georgia.

The Eagles improve to 8-1 on the season and the win marks their eighth in a row. Graduate student Claire Brock led the team offensively with 21 points followed by 12 points from sophomore Katherine Martini, her second game this season with double-digit points. Brock also led the team with three shots made from beyond the arc. Junior Morgan Laudick helped Emory on both sides of the ball posting her first career double-double recording 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

The first quarter started close with the Eagles holding a slight 8-6 lead with 7:16 left in the quarter before the Eagles pulled away with an 18-10 lead thanks to back to back layups from sophomore Lily Kennedy. Brock posted two of her three threes in the first six minutes of the game. After another layup from freshman Mikaela Hubbard, the quarter was scoreless with Emory holding a 20-12 lead heading into the second.

Senior Izzy Munson highlighted the start of the second quarter with three points to help Emory to a 25-17 advantage with 7:28 remaining in the quarter. Martini broke out in the second quarter making three shots giving the Eagles a 34-20 lead with 3:43 before the break. Freshman Alexandra Loucopoulos finished out the quarter for Emory with a layup giving the Eagles a 36-25 advantage heading into the locker room.

Laudick helped the Eagles during the first three minutes of the third quarter with five points of her own to give Emory a 15-point lead with 7:27 in the third. The game was later scoreless for two minutes before another layup from Kennedy with 3:25 remaining in the quarter followed by a late layup from Martini to help Emory to a 51-39 at the end of the third quarter.

Junior Daniella Aronsky started the fourth quarter strong for the Eagles with a layup from Brock giving the Eagles a 56-41 lead with 6:55 remaining in the fourth quarter. Brock finished her impressive game in the fourth quarter with back to back layups late in the fourth quarter to give Emory a 63-49 lead with less than three minutes left in the game. The Eagles finished the rest of the game with a 6-5 run to secure the win 69-54.

The Eagles will return after winter break to face Hardin-Simmons at 4:00 PM at the WoodPec in Atlanta, Georgia.
