Women’s Basketball Secures Home Opener Win over LaGrange, 85-64

The Emory University women's basketball team won big over the LaGrange Panthers on Tuesday night in the team's first home game of the season.

The Eagles improve to 2-1 to start the season and were led by junior Daniella Aronsky's 19 points and seven assists while going 5-8 in three pointers. Fellow junior Morgan Laudick had her best game so far this season totaling 14 points with a career-high nine rebounds while senior Claire Brock got her first start of the season helping the Eagles with 18 points and four three pointers.

The first quarter was the best start the Eagles have seen all season starting the game with a 21-0 lead thanks to 18 combined points from Aronsky, Laudick and senior Izzy Munson. Sophomore Lily Kennedy came into the game and gave Emory another six points taking a 29-9 lead after the first quarter.

Heading into the second quarter, the scoring didn't continue until late in the quarter with the Eagles holding a 33-18 lead with 6:44 left. Aronsky and Brock showed out bringing the lead to 48-28 before three pointers from freshmen Emma Starr and Riley Allen gave the Eagles a 54-30 lead at the half.

The Panthers gave up four turnovers in the third quarter and helped Emory to a 67-41 lead with 5:03 left on the clock before another three pointer from Allen gave the Eagles a 31 point lead at the end of the third, their biggest lead of the day.

The fourth quarter was a low scoring one for the Eagles with just nine points scored with the help of free throws from freshman Alexandra Loucopoulos towards the end of the quarter. Despite LaGrange outscoring the Eagles in the fourth, the Eagles held onto their lead and finished the game with an 85-64 victory.

The Eagles will be back in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, November 18 as they host the two-day Emory Tip Off Classic where they will face Swarthmore in the first game at 1 pm.
