Top-Ranked Athenas Open ITA Indoors with 6-1 Win over Carnegie Mellon

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned a quick 6-1 win over No. 10 Carnegie Mellon Friday in the quarterfinals of the ITA Division III Indoor Nationals at the Top Seed Tennis Club.

CMS now moves to 5-0 on the young season, including 2-0 against Division III opponents. 

Audrey Yoon, Alisha Chulani, Ella Brissett and Katherine Wurtser each won in both singles and doubles for the Athenas. Yoon and Wurster combined for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, with Yoon going on to take a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, and Wurster earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. 

Chulani teamed with Nikolina Batoshvili for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and then won a quick 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles. Brissett and Linsday Eisenman picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, with Brissett earning a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. 

Sena Selby also earned a singles win for the Athenas, taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 4. The match was played with Division I scoring rules, with doubles counting as one point. 

CMS advances to tomorrow's semifinal round, where it will take on fifth-seeded Johns Hopkins, which defeated fourth-seeded Emory 4-3. Sunday's final/consolation round will be against either Chicago, Pomona-Pitzer, MIT or Sewanee.
