Women's Tennis Blanks Sewanee in ITA Indoors Fifth-Place Match

The Emory University women's tennis team ended the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on a strong note Sunday morning, defeating Sewanee 5-0 in the fifth-place match.

The Eagles were in complete control against their regional rivals, making quick work of the Tigers in just over two hours of match play.

Doubles began with three tidy wins as junior Ana Cristina Perez and freshman Emily Kantrovitz as well as sophomore Eliza McPherron and freshman Iris Berman picked up 8-5 results on courts one and three while the duo of senior Alexa Goetz and freshman Izzy Antanavicius were 8-4 winners at the second position.

Kantrovitz and Berman continued the momentum for the Eagles, earning the clinching wins in singles moments apart from each other. Kantrovitz was bumped up to first singles on Sunday and produced with a 7-5, 6-1 victory and on court five, Berman rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.

At the conclusion of the match, Perez and Goetz were each leading by a set in their respective matches with Perez up 6-0, 3-4 on two and Goetz in front 6-1, 3-2 on six.

The Eagles will back on the courts two weeks from today, hosting SCAD at the WoodPEC on Sunday, March 19 in a 12:00 PM start time.
