Women’s Basketball Tops 64-51 in Last Home Game of Semester

The Emory University women's basketball team remains undefeated at home after taking down the Rhodes College Lynx 64-51 on Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the semester.

The Eagles improve to 7-1 and boast a seven-game win streak after Sunday's win. Junior Morgan Laudick posted a season-high 16 points on the day, the second time in her career, and totaled five rebounds for the Eagles. Senior Izzy Munson and graduate student Claire Brock both followed behind with 12 points of their own while Munson led the team with four assists on the day. Junior Erin Martin helped Emory with seven rebounds, her third best this season and junior Daniella Aronsky added two more three pointers to her season total.

Emory outshot the Lynx from the field shooting 42.4% compared to Rhodes' 28.6 percent, but the Lynx were able to go 11-13 (84.6%) from the line compared to Emory's 2-8 (25.0%). The Eagles were able to take advantage of shots beyond the perimeter shooing 37.5% compared to Rhodes' 30.8%.

The first minute and a half of the first quarter was scoreless until the Lynx were able to go up 4-2 on the Eagles after back to back jump shots from Avery Marsh. Shots from Brock and Laudick gave the Eagles the lead back with 5:11 remaining in the quarter. The game was scoreless again until the three-minute mark with another jump shot from Marsh to cut the Eagles' lead to three. Emory was able to pull away and took a 17-12 lead into the second quarter.

The Eagles came alive at the start of the second quarter with back to back threes from Brock and Aronsky to give the Eagles a 23-14 lead with 8:49 in the quarter. A three from Aronsky in the middle of the second gave Emory a 16-point lead over the Lynx before Rhodes brought it back to an 11-point game with 1:22 left in the quarter. A late jumper from freshman Alexandra Loucopoulos gave Emory a 39-23 advantage heading into the locker room.

After the break, the Lynx were on the lookout for a comeback cutting Emory's lead to 20 with 7:46 left. Jumpers from Laudick and Brock helped the Eagles to a 52-28 lead halfway through the quarter but Rhodes went on a 5-2 run to end the third.

The Lynx were able to outscore the Eagles 18-10 in the fourth quarter after Laudick and Martin started the fourth quarter with three layups. Emory took its biggest lead of the game with 27 points with 8:47 in the third quarter before Rhodes went on a 13-4 run with 2:22 left in the quarter to give the Eagles a 64-44 advantage. Emory was unable to score again in the game but were able to hold off Rhodes' offense to take the game 64-51.

The Eagles will travel to face the Piedmont Lions on Tuesday, December 5 at 5:00 PM in the final game before winter break.
