WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team was unable to gain a season sweep of University Athletic Association rivals from the University of Rochester today as the Judges dropped a 72-55 decision in Red Auerbach Arena a week after defeating UR on the road. With the loss, the Judges fall to 6-12 overall, 1-8 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets improve to 13-7, 5-4 UAA.

Brandeis owned an early 12-6 lead with just under seven minutes gone in the first period thanks to the play of junior Emma Reavis (Miami, Okla./Deerfield, Mass., Academy), who scored 10 of the team's 14 points in the stanza. Rochester closed the period on a 9-2 run of their own to take a 15-14 lead.

The visitors scored the first six points of the second and looked to take control. UR went ahead by as many as 13 points at 33-20 with 4:43 to go in the first half on a Haley Dumiak lay-up. Brandeis fought back, outscoring the Yellowjackets, 10-2, including the last six points from the free-throw line, to make it 35-30, at halftime. Reavis added four more points in the second to lead all scorers with 14 at the break.

Rochester pulled away in the third quarter, when they outscored Brandeis 20-7. They held the Judges to just 16 percent from the field (3-19), including 0-for-5 from 3-point range. UR center Julianna Okoniewski outscored the entire Brandeis lineup with eight points in the period as the visitors took a 55-37 lead. Brandeis outscored Rochester, 18-17, in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.

For the game Reavis tied for game-high scoring honors with 17 points, her third career-high in the last five contests. She hit 6-of-13 overall, 0-of-1 from downtown, and 5-of-7 from the line. Reavis also had six rebounds and a team-high three assists. Senior Camila Casanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos) finished just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. First-year forward Caitlin Gresko (Howell, N.J./Howell) added 11 points and five boards. No other Brandeis player scored more than four points.

Rochester was paced by Okoniewski, who had a double-double, scoring 17 points to match Reavis, and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds – five on the offensive glass. Guard Hannah Lindemuth added 16 points and forward Alexis Sestric had 11.  Maura Leverone added eight points and Kelsey Stites had seven off the bench as UR reserves outscored Brandeis's 17-11. Rochester outshot Brandeis, 43% (28-65) to 31% (19-62).

Brandeis returns to action next weekend on the road when they travel to Carnegie Mellon for a 7:30 p.m. tip next Friday evening.
