Athletes of the Week for November 5, 2018

Women’s Cross Country

Michaela Jones  —  Washington University  —  North Andover, MA (Phillips Academy Andover)

Washington University first-year runner Michaela Jones was the first of six consecutive Bears to cross the finish line at the North Central College Red & White three-mile race. She posted a winning time of 17:48.3 to help lead the Bears to a perfect score.

Men’s Cross Country

Joe Stover  —  Washington University  —  Hingham, MA (Boston College HS)

Washington University sophomore Joe Stover was the first of eight consecutive Bears to cross the finish line at the North Central College Red & White three-mile race. He posted a winning time of 14:45.4 to help lead the Bears to a perfect score.

Football – Offense

Drew Saxton  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  South Fayette, PA (South Fayette)

Freshman quarterback Drew Saxton threw five touchdowns passes to lead 20th-ranked Case Western Reserve University to a 41-17 win over Waynesburg University. He completed 27 of 37 passes for 327 yards with scoring strikes to five different receivers. In the third quarter alone, Saxton connected on nine of 10 passes for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Football – Defense

Patrick Crossey  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Plum Senior)

Junior defensive back Patrick Crossey notched eight tackles and forced a fumble in a 41-17 Case Western Reserve University home win over Waynesburg University. He helped the Spartans hold the Yellow Jackets to 281 yards of total offense, including just 76 yards on the ground.

Football – Special Teams

Skyler Blacker  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Lake Bluff, IL (Libertyville)

Sophomore Skyler Blacker of Carnegie Mellon University blocked two kicks in a 23-19 Tartans’ setback at Westminster College. The blocked an extra point to keep the score 6-0 after the opening score. Blacker then blocked a 44-yard field goal attempt at the end of the first half.

Women’s Soccer – Offense

Ashlyn Krygowski  —  NYU  —  Dunstable, MA (Worcester Academy)

NYU junior forward Ashlyn Krygowski scored with 29 seconds remaining as the Violets capped a late comeback and defeated Brandeis University, 2-1. The goal marked her second game-winner against a ranked UAA opponent. NYU tied the match against the 13th-ranked Judges in the 81st minute.

Women’s Soccer – Defense

Kristen Reikersdorfer  —  Washington University  —  Middleton, WI (Middleton)

Washington University sophomore Kristen Reikersdorfer recorded two team saves as the top-ranked Bears capped off a perfect regular season with a 2-0 win over 20th-ranked University of Chicago. In the 53rd minute, the Maroons had a golden opportunity off a corner kick, but Reikersdorfer made a team save to keep it a one-goal game. She cleared a header off the line in the 79th minute to help preserve the Bears’ 13th shutout.

Men’s Soccer – Offense

Max Lopez  —  University of Chicgao  —  Tulsa, OK (Cascia Hall)

Senior forward Max Lopez scored one goal and assisted on another as University of Chicago clinched its third consecutive UAA title with a 3-1 win at Washington University. He netted the game’s first goal and assisted on the third goal to help seal the win.

Men’s Soccer – Defense

Grant Engel  —  NYU  —  New York, NY (The Birch Wathen Lenox School)

Senior goalkeeper Grant Engel recorded his sixth shutout of the season in NYU’s 1-0 double overtime win over Brandeis University. He made eight saves, including two key saves late in regulation, to send the game into overtime.

Women’s Tennis

Katie Chang  —  Emory University  —  Coto de Caza, CA (Santa Margarita Catholic)

Emory University sophomore Katie Chang won both her singles and doubles draws at the Wofford College Invitational over the weekend. She won all three singles matches in straight sets, losing a total of eight games in six sets. In doubles, Chang teamed with first-year teammate Christina Watson to post back-to-back 6-0 victories.

Volleyball

Karissa Dzurik  —  Emory University  —  Columbia, PA (Hempfield)

Emory University senior outside hitter Karissa Dzurik averaged 4.56 kills per set with a .294 hitting percentage to help lead Emory University to the title at the 2018 UAA Volleyball Championship. She totaled 15 kills and hit .314 as the Eagles avenged their only Association loss of the season with a sweep of Carnegie Mellon University in the semifinals. In a sweep of University of Chicago in the final, Dzurik led all players with 14 kills and a .371 hitting percentage, adding three blocks.

Kaitlyn Oh  —  Brandeis University  —  Santa Clara, CA (Cupertino)

Brandeis University first-year libero Kaitlyn Oh led all players with 71 digs, averaging 5.92 per set, as the Judges won two matches to place fifth, their best finish since 2008. She recorded 26 digs in a four-set win over Case Western Reserve University, the Judges’ first win in the UAA Volleyball Championship since 2010. In the fifth-place match, Oh registered 36 digs as Brandeis came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat NYU.

Finn Wilkins  —  Emory University  —  Scottsdale, AZ (Desert Mountain)

Emory University sophomore middle blocker Finn Wilkins averaged 1.67 blocks per set to key the defense and help lead the Eagles to the title at the 2018 UAA Volleyball Championship. She posted a match-high five blocks in the Eagles’ semifinal sweep over Carnegie Mellon University, adding two service aces. Wilkins finished the weekend with seven blocks to lead the Eagles 12-1 advantage in blocks in a sweep of University of Chicago.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Fiona Muir  —  Emory University  —  Great Falls, CA (Langley)

Senior Fiona Muir won one event and swam on two victorious relays as Emory University finished first at its home invitational. She swam the third-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season in the 100-yard freestyle (52.38 seconds) and swam on the third-fastest 400-yard medley relay in Division III this fall that won in a time of 3:54.58. Muir placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.30 seconds) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.40), while also participating on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.24).

Ashlyn Winship —  NYU  —  Richardson, TX (Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science)

Sophomore Ashlyn Winship of NYU won both diving events in a home contest against NCAA Division I Manhattan College on Friday. She posted a score of 291.30 in the three-meter dive and earned a win on the one-meter board with a mark of 284.32 points.

Agnes Lo —  University of Chicago  —  Fremont, CA (Mission San Jose)

Junior Agnes Lo of University of Chicago won one diving event and placed second in another as the Maroons topped Washington University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a tri-meet. She set a program record with a winning mark of 302.80 points in the one-meter dive. Lo scored 280.40 in placing second on the three-meter board.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Trey Kolleck  —  Emory University  —  Newburgh, IN (Castlea)

Senior Trey Kolleck won two individual events and swam the final leg of four winning relays as Emory University won its home invitational. He posted the fastest NCAA Division III time this season and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships with his time of 20.53 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. Kolleck won the 100-yard freestyle (46.12 seconds), an event in which he already holds the nation’s fastest time. The Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.76), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:04.69), 200-yard medley relay (1:32.48), and 400-yard medley relay (3:23.40) all set top-three times in Division III this season.

Cole Vertin  —  NYU  —  San Jose, CA (St. Francis)

Freshman Cole Vertin won both diving events as NYU faced NCAA Division I Manhattan College on Friday. He captured the three-meter dive with a score of 327.08 and won the one-meter dive with 279.38 points.

Wrestling

Will Crisco  —  NYU  —  Madison, CT (Wyoming Seminary Prep, PA)

NYU senior Will Crisco won five bouts at the King’s College Ned McGinley Invitational to place second in the 141-pound bracket. He won a pair of bouts by technical fall and one by fall.

They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
