Athletes of the Week for October 31, 2022

Women’s Cross Country

Annika Urban  —  Emory University  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Fox Chapel)

Senior Annika Urban became the first Emory University individual champion since 2001 at the 2022 UAA Women’s Cross Country Championship hosted by the Eagles. She covered the six-kilometer Nash Farm Battlefield course in Hampton, Georgia in 21:14.4, finishing 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Urban has won all five of her races this season.

Men’s Cross Country

Joe Jaster  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Macomb, MI (Dakota)

Senior Joe Jaster became the second Case Western Reserve University individual champion in program history, first since 2004, at the 2022 UAA Men’s Cross Country Championship hosted by Emory University. He completed the eight-kilometer Nash Farm Battlefield course in Hampton, Georgia in 24:44.5, which was 4.6 seconds ahead of the runner-up and helped lead the Spartans to a third-place team finish.

Men’s Golf

Prayaag Oruganti  —  Emory University  —  Austin, TX (Vandegrift)

Sophomore Prayaag Oruganti became the first Emory University golfer to win an individual title this season at the Chick-fil-A Invitational. He carded a two-round score of 139 (70-69) and registered three eagles in leading Emory to a runner-up team finish.

Women’s Soccer – Offense

Camryn Hartman  —  Case Western Reserve University —  Cleveland, OH (Magnificat)

Case Western Reserve University graduate student forward Camryn Hartman played a role in all three goals in the fourth-ranked Spartans’ 1-0-1 weekend. She netted both goals, including the tying goal in the 89th minute, as the Spartans came back from a 2-0 deficit for a 2-2 draw on Friday night. Hartman assisted on the only score in a 1-0 win over 15th-ranked Emory University on Sunday.

Women’s Soccer – Defense

Alana Frederick  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  New York, NY (Sacred Heart Greenwich, CT)

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore back Alana Frederick led the Tartans to key UAA wins over Emory University and University of Rochester. She and the Tartans’ defense limited the Eagles to two shots on goal in a 3-1 victory, the Eagles’ first Association loss of the season. Frederick scored the game’s only goal late in the first half in the Tartans’ 1-0 win over the Yellowjackets, who were held to two shots on goal.

Men’s Soccer – Offense

Joe Leslie  — NYU  —  London, England (Haberdashers Aske’s Boys School)

NYU junior forward Joe Leslie recorded a brace on Sunday, leading the Violets to a 3-0 win over Washington University on Sunday. He scored the first goal at 17:11 and netted the third goal of the match at 57:43.

Men’s Soccer – Defense

Luca Mancuso  —  NYU  —  Miami, FL (Montverde Academy)

NYU senior goalkeeper Luca Mancuso made five saves as the Violets became the first team to shut out top-ranked University of Chicago this season as the teams played to a scoreless draw on Friday. He made one save on Sunday in the Violets’ 3-0 blanking of Washington University on Sunday.

Volleyball

Carly Wallace  —  Emory University  —  Los Angeles, CA (Harvard-Westlake)

Junior Carly Wallace was named Most Valuable Player of the Emory University Invitational after helping lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record. She averaged 3.82 kills, 3.27 digs, and 0.82 blocks per set. Wallace recorded 20 kills (hitting .419), 15 digs, and three blocks as the Eagles defeated eighth-ranked Berry College in four sets.

Amanda Meyer  —  Emory University  —  St. Louis, MO (St. Joseph’s Academy)

Junior Amanda Meyer was named to the Emory University Invitational All-Tournament Team as the Eagles finished 3-0. She recorded 18 blocks, averaging 1.64 per set, including registering eight blocks in a four-set win over Birmingham-Southern College. Meyer also hit .328 and averaged 2.73 kills per set in the tournament.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Savannah Xu  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Chapel Hill, NC (Chapel Hill)

In her collegiate debut, Savannah Xu of Carnegie Mellon University set three pool records in the Tartans’ 228.5-71.5 dual meet victory over UAA rival Case Western Reserve University. She swam the fastest times in NCAA Division III this season in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.73) and 200-yard individual medley (2:05.13), while her victorious time of 56.21 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke ranks third in Division III this season.

Kelli Kuramoto  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Los Altos, CA (Los Altos)

Junior Kelli Kuramoto surpassed the NCAA Division III regional qualifying diving scores in both events in a Carnegie Mellon University dual meet win over UAA rival Case Western Reserve University. She captured the one-meter board with a mark of 265.80 points and the three-meter event with a score of 271.50.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Alex McCormick  —  Washington University  —  Crown Point, IN (Crown Point)

Junior Alex McCormick of Washington University posted two top-10 times in NCAA Division III this season in a dual meet with UAA rival University of Chicago. He captured the 200-yard backstroke in 1:50.43, which ranks fifth in Division III this fall, and the 100-yard backstroke in 50.96 seconds, which currently ranks ninth.

Jud Kyle  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Austin, TX (St. Stephen’s Episcopal School)

Graduate student Jud Kyle surpassed the NCAA Division III regional qualifying diving scores in both events in the Carnegie Mellon University dual meet win over UAA rival Case Western Reserve University. He won the three-meter board with a mark of 332.75 points and captured the one-meter dive with a score of 301.50.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
