Emory Opens Weekend with 13-2 Win at Huntingdon

The Emory University Eagles, ranked 26th in Division III, opened a three-game series against Huntingdon College with a 13-2 win against the Hawks in Montgomery, Alabama on Friday night.

Emory, which picked up its fourth win in its last five games, improved to 17-10 overall on the season, while Huntingdon dropped to 17-13 in 2015 with the loss.

Sophomore Jackson Weeg was dominant through eight innings of work, striking out a career-high 10 batters in the game. He allowed just two runs (only one earned) on five hits without walking a batter.  He improved to 7-1 on the year, while lowering his ERA to a team-best 1.66.

At the plate, senior Brett Lake went three-for-three with three runs, three RBIs, two walks and a double.  Junior Ben Vizvary added a three-for-five day with two RBIs, while sophomore Philip Maldari was two-for-five with three RBIs and two doubles, giving the third baseman 10 doubles and 13 RBI in his last six games.

Emory scored a run in the first, and then broke the contest open with five more in the top of the second, taking a 6-0 advantage. Huntingdon scored a run in each of the second and third frames, but the Eagles would pull away with seven more unanswered runs between the fourth and seventh innings.

The Eagles finished the game with 14 hits, including four doubles.

Starter Jackson Cruce took the loss for Huntingdon, falling to 5-3 on the year.
