All-Region Awards Continue For Nolan Schultz and Brian Munoz of Rochester

From University of Rochester Athletics

After the closing of the University of Rochester baseball season earlier this month, awards keep piling in for two of UR's best players following the 2015 season.

Just days after earning All-Region accolades from D3Baseball.com, senior 3rd baseman Brian Munoz and junior catcher Nolan Schultz were named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region selections for the New York region on Wednesday.

This season, Munoz has accumulated numerous awards, earning 1st team All-League honors from both the University Athletic Association and Liberty League, the only Rochester player to do that this season.  He also earned his first All-Region award this week, being named to the All-New York Region 1st Team by D3Baseball.com.  He was one of UR's top hitters this year, leading the team in on base percentage (.450), hits (50), walks (21) and HBP (10) while hitting .340 (50-147) overall with 32 runs, 11 doubles, 5 triples, 3 home runs and 26 RBI for the Yellowjackets.  Munoz embarked on a 33-game streak in which he reached base safely to start the season, reaching in all but three of Rochester's 42 games this year.

In 2015, Schultz was a unanimous 1st Team All-Liberty League choice while earning 2nd team accolades from the University Athletic Association.  He too was a 1st Team All-Region selection from D3Baseball.com and earns his first award from the ABCA this year.  Overall through his three seasons, Schultz is now a 3-time 1st Team All-Liberty League player, 2-time All-UAA selection and 2-time D3Baseball.com All-Region honoree.  He hit .319 at the plate (46-144) with 29 runs, 6 doubles, 6 triples, 7 home runs and 35 RBIs.  He led the Yellowjackets in triples, total bases (85), sac flies (4) and slugging percentage (.590).  Schultz also showed off his arm, tossing out 18 runners attempting to steal on him this season, matching his school record.

Over the last three seasons, Rochester has had six different players named ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region players.  In 2013, Josh Ludwig was a 3rd team selection, last year Evan Janifer and Ethan Sander made the 2nd team while Lance Hamilton made the 3rd team and this year, Munoz and Schultz were honored.
