Jackson Weeg Named D3Baseball.com All-American; Philip Maldari & Kyle Monk Claim All-Region Honors

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University sophomore pitcher Jackson Weeg was named to the All-America Third Team by D3Baseball.com, while sophomore third baseman Philip Maldari and sophomore closer Kyle Monk were each named to both the D3Baseball.com and ABCA/ Rawlings All-South Region teams.

Weeg becomes the third Emory player to be named an all-American by D3Baseball.com, joining Brett Lake (First Team in 2014) and former Eagle Jason Glushon (Third Team in 2007).  It marks the 15th All-America honor overall earned by an Emory pitcher (including ABCA awards) and he is the sixth Emory pitcher to be named to an All-America team.

Weeg was also named to both the D3Baseball.com and ABCA/ Rawlings All-South Region Second Teams, following his standout season with the Eagles.  Maldari and Monk were both named to the D3Baseball.com All-South Region Second Team as well, while Maldari earned Second Team honors on the ABCA/ Rawlings list, with Monk claiming Third Team acclaim.

Weeg has gone 11-1 during the campaign, leading all Division III pitchers in victories during the season.  In addition, he ranks eighth in Division III with 93 strikeouts in 2015, while recording a 2.53 ERA and a .241 opponents' average.  The southpaw was named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA South Regional, after throwing 8.2 innings on just two days rest and earning the win in the Championship Game over Birmingham-Southern College.  He also earned a spot on the All-UAA First Team during the campaign, and was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week on both February 23rd and April 20th.

Maldari was selected to the All-UAA First Team as well during the campaign, and will enter the NCAA Championship rounds with 21 doubles, the second-most in school history in a season and seventh among Division III players in 2015.  He was named to the NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team, batting .474 with seven runs scored, five RBIs, three doubles and a home run over the five games.  For the year, Maldari is batting .382 with two home runs, 43 runs scored and 35 RBIs, and he was selected as the UAA Athlete of the Week on March 30th.

Monk broke the school's single-season record with 11 saves this season, and tied the program record with 18 career saves.  He stands at 4-2 on the year with a 2.85 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 41.0 innings pitched and 22 appearances, all out of the bullpen.  Monk was named to the All-UAA Second Team in 2015, and claimed the UAA Pitcher of the Week award on March 2nd.  He was selected to the NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team, appearing in four of the five games and going 1-1 with a pair of saves.

It marked the first All-Region honors for each of the three players.
