Eagles Bounce Back With 7-4 Win Over Brandeis; Stay Tied for Second in UAA Standings

From Emory University Athletics

The third ranked Emory University baseball team moved into a tie with Washington University for second place in the UAA standings after three days of action following a 7-4 victory over Brandeis University on Tuesday night in Sanford, Fla. The Eagles moved to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in UAA play while the Judges dropped to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the UAA.

Freshman Billy Dimlow earned his third win on the mound this season, moving to 3-0 on the year. Dimlow worked 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

At the plate, Emory had four players register two hits in the contest. Senior Ben Vizvary drove in a game-high three runs and sophomore Nick Chambers added two RBI. Also driving in a run for the Eagles were junior Wilson Morgan and sophomore Mitch Kerner. Morgan picked up his team-leading eighth stolen base of the season as well in the game.

Emory jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first with RBI hits by Chambers and Vizvary. With Emory playing station to station, Chambers lined a base hit to center with the bases loaded to plate Morgan. With two outs, Vizvary also singled to center to bring home junior Brian Hernandez and senior Dylan Eisner.

The Judges cut the lead to one at 3-2 after snapping Dimlow's sting of 10 batters in a row sent down with two outs in the inning. Brandeis saw a HBP followed by a double down the right field line to bring home their first run of the game. A sac fly later made it 3-2 still in favor of the Eagles.

In bottom half of the inning, sophomore Mitch Kerner got one run back for Emory as he singled up the middle to plate senior Chris Slivka with two outs in the frame. An inning later, the Blue and Gold increased their lead to four runs at 6-2 as Chambers had a deep shot to the left field gap off the wall which scored Eisner from first. Chambers scored two batters later as Vizvary collected his third RBI of the contest with another single to center field.

The Eagles tacked on another run in the sixth to make it 7-2 as Morgan had a sharp base hit to right to plate Kerner who got on with double to left.

Brandeis got two on with no one out off Dimlow to lead off the seventh but was only able to push one runner across off the freshman and reliever junior Luke Emmett in the frame.

The Judges brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth off Emmett but the junior southpaw was able to maneuver his way through the final inning to help Emory earn the three run win.
