From Emory University Athletics

Senior Chris Slivka and junior Hans Hansen powered the #6/7 Emory University baseball program to an 8-4 victory over Maryville College on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Eagles moved to a season-best 15 games over .500 at 22-7 while the Scots dropped to 21-10.

For the second straight game, Slivka drove in a team-high three runs and belted his first two career home runs as well in the four-run win. Hansen bounced back after taking the loss his last time out, tossing eight strong innings of one-run ball to move to 6-1 on the year. Hansen gave up one run on six hits, striking out four while walking only one.

After falling behind 1-0 following the second inning, the Eagles scored eight unanswered runs and at least one per inning from the third through the seventh to build an 8-1 lead.

Emory tied the game at 1-1 in the third with a RBI fielder's choice by junior Wilson Morgan. In the fourth inning, Slivka provided Emory a 3-1 lead with his first home run of the game over the left centerfield fence. The Eagles tacked on three more in the fifth inning thanks to two errors in the field by the Scots. Junior Brian Hernandez and senior Dylan Eisner had RBI singles in the frame.

Slivka hit his second home run of the contest and second off Debity to lead off the sixth inning before the Blue and Gold added one more run in the seventh inning as senior Ben Vizvary scored on a RBI single off the bat of junior Chris Young.

Maryville cut the deficit to four in the ninth inning off senior Paul Merolla but the tall right hander was able to settle down and finish the inning before any more damage was done. Merolla picked up two strikeouts in the inning.
