Brandeis University baseball senior centerfielder Liam O'Connor of Avon, Conn., has been named to the 2016 Academic All-District 1 team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a player must have a grade-point average of at least 3.30 as a significant contributor to his team. District 1 consists of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont for Division III. All-District selections are now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this spring.
O'Connor started every game this season for the Judges in center. He leads the team and the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a .427 batting average. O'Connor's .488 on-base percentage is second in the UAA, while his 61 hits are third and 36 runs scored are fourth. He has hit safely in 30 of the Judges' 36 games this season, including a 14-game hitting streak.
This season, O'Connor has helped the Judges to a 19-16-1 record, their best season since 2011. The campaign included a nine-game winning streak, the program's longest since 2002, and wins in 10 of their last 11 contests. Brandeis hopes to qualify for the ECAC Division III New England tournament for the first time since 2011.
For his career, O'Connor has missed just nine games over the past four seasons for the Judges. He is a .339 career hitter, who ranks eighth on Brandeis's career list with 170 hits. O'Connor was named the 2013 UAA Rookie of the Year and was a second-team All-Association selection that year.
Off the field, O'Connor boasts a 3.40 grade-point average as a political science major with a minor in legal studies. He has been on the Dean's List four times and on the Academic All-UAA team three times. O'Connor is a founding member of Brandeis Men's Group as well as a member of Pre-Law Society and Campus Democrats.
O'Connor is a 2012 graduate of Avon High School.
