WashU Takes Two on Senior Day to Sweep Brandeis Series

The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team completed the sweep of Brandeis on Sunday with a pair of wins over the Judges. The Bears are now 25-8 overall with a 9-3 mark in UAA play.
 
Game 1: WashU 7, Brandeis 3
Brandeis put a run on the board in the top of the first inning. Sam Nugent led off with a single to first and Mike DiCenso singled through the right side and stole second. DiCenso scored on a wild pitch to make it a 1-0 game for the Judges.
 
The Bears tied things up in the bottom of the third inning. Brandon Buday singled through the right side and Mauterer reached on a fielder's choice, with Buday safe at second due to a throwing error. Shane Pellegrino reached on a fielder's choice and Clayton Miller moved Mauterer up with a fly out to right. Kaden Bernhard singled through the right side to score Mauterer and tie it up at one run apiece.
 
WashU took a four-run lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Buday drilled a grand slam, scoring Chris JacintoBroghan O'Connor and Hunter Goldberg for the 5-1 lead.
 
The Bears added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Braden Mazone led off with a single to left center and Jacinto single to right center and stole second. O'Connor drove in Mazone with a sac fly to center for a 6-1 edge.
 
Brandeis put up another run in the top of the seventh. Drew Michaud drew a walk and Alex Kim singled to second base. Griffin Bodown singled down the left field line to score Michaud and make it a 6-2 game.
 
WashU scored another in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, Jack Miller drew a walk, stole second and advance to third on a long throw. Pellegrino drew a walk and Miller scored on a failed pick-off attempt to make it a 7-2 game.
 
The Judges added one more run in the top of the ninth. Michaud hit a lead-off single to right center and advanced on a Kim grounder. Bodow singled to center to put runners on the corners and Jordan Greenaway grounded out to third to score Michaud.
 
Mazone finished 2-for-4 with one run while Buday went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run scored. Jacinto finished 1-for-4 with one run scored and Pellegrino went 1-for-3 with two walks.
 
Will Henkel earned his seventh win of the season on the mound, going 6.1 innings with two earned runs, just one walk and five strikeouts.
 
Game 2: WashU 15, Brandeis 3
WashU took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Buday drew a lead-off walk and Jacinto singled to right field. Pellegrino drew a walk to load the bases and Miller followed with another walk to score Buday. Mazone was also walked, scoring Jacinto and Pellegrino went on to score on a Bernhard sac fly to center. The final run of the inning scored as Miller stole home.
 
Brandeis scored in the top of the second inning. Greenaway led off with a double to right center and moved to third on an Aidan Schleer ground out and scored as Matthew Motiwalla reached base on an error.
 
The Judges came out to score another run in the top of the third inning. Brian King drew a lead-off walk and Justin Keeler singled to left field. Michaud advanced the runners with a sac bunt and King scored on a Greenaway ground out to second.
 
WashU also added another run in the third inning. Miller drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Bernhard advanced him a base with a ground out and Miller went on to score on a Magnus Dunn single to third, giving WashU a 5-2 lead.
 
The Bears scored two more in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jack Miller led off with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error. He went on to score on a wild pitch.
 
Jacinto drew a walk and stole second before moving to third on a Pellegrino ground out. Clayton Miller reached on an error and Jacinto scored to make it a 7-2 game.
 
Jack Miller led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to third and stole second. Buday drew a walk and both runners went on to steal second. Pellegrino brought in Miller with a single through the right side for the 8-2 lead.
 
Pellegrino stole second and Clayton Miller hit a sac fly to right field to bring in Buday. Mazone drilled a triple to right center, scoring Pellegrino to make it a 10-2 game. Bernhard followed with a single to right center to score Mazone. Dunn singled to left and Mauterer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bernhard scored on a passed ball to make it a 12-2 game.
 
Jack Miller drilled a triple to right center to score Dunn and Mauterer and Buday followed with a single to score Jack Miller for the 15-2 lead.
 
The Judges added a run in the top of the seventh inning. Griffin Bodow hit a lead-off single to left center and moved to second on a passed ball. DiCenso doubled to left center, scoring Bodow.
 
Bernhard went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run score while Jack Miller finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Dunn went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run score while Pellegrino finished 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored as well as two walks.
 
Isaac Zhang picked up his first win of the season on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings with three hits, one earned run, no walks and three strikeouts.
