Bears Take 2-0 Series Lead Over Brandeis

The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team defeated Brandeis 11-1 on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the UAA series. The Bears are now. 23-8 overall with a 7-3 mark in conference play.
 
Brandeis got on the board first in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Alex Kim singled to first and advanced to second on a throwing error. Drew Michaud walked and Griffin Bodow reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Kim for the 1-0 lead.
 
The Bears put up three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. With two outs, Harry Mauterer drew a walk and Shane Pellegrino singled down the right field line. Clayton Miller drilled a homer over the left field fence.
 
WashU added another two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kaden Bernhard singled to lead off and moved up on a Magnus Dunn sac bunt. Chris Jacinto singled up the middle to score Bernhard and then stole second. Brandon Buday followed with a single through the left side, scoring Jacinto for a 5-1 Bears' lead.
 
The Bears came out to score four more in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pellegrino drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Miller singled to left to put runners on the corners and then stole second. Braden Mazone singled up the middle to score both runners and Bernhard smashed a homer over the left field fence to make it a 9-1 game.
 
In the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Miller drew a walk. Mazone followed with a single up the middle to put runners on the corners and stole second. Bernhard continued to have a day, singled up the middle to score both Miller and Mazone for an 11-1 Bears' lead.
 
Miller went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored while Bernhard finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Mazone went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored and Pellegrino finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
 
Sebastian Guzman picked up his fourth win on the mound, pitching a complete game with one earned run and five strikeouts.
