WashU Sweeps NYU on Saturday afternoon

The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team swept NYU in a UAA doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Bears hold a 3-0 lead in the series heading into the final game on Sunday.
 
Game 1: WashU 9, NYU 3
The Bears got on the board quickly in the top of the first inning. Brandon Buday drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before stealing third. He went on to score on a Shane Pellegrino sac fly to right field for the 1-0 lead.
 
WashU added two more runs in the top of the third inning. Buday reached on an error by the pitcher and stole second. Harry Mauterer drew a walk and both runners stole second. Pellegrino drew a walk to load the bases. Clayton Miller reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Buday. Braden Mazone followed with a single through the left side to score Pellegrino and give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
 
The Violets came out to tie things up in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alex VanLandingham was hit by a pitch to lead off and moved up to second on a Nate Pallotta ground out to third. With two outs, Richard Beggy reached on a throwing error, scoring VanLandingham. Kosta Mocklis singled through the left side and Max Oliveira singled to right to score Beggy. Russell Burton singled up the middle, scoring Mocklis to tie things up 3-3.
 
Buday led off the top of the seventh inning with a homer to right field, giving WashU a 4-3 edge.
 
The Bears rallied went off for four runs in the top of the eighth inning.
 
Magnus Dunn drew a one-out walk and went on to steal both second and third. Hunter Goldberg drew a walk and Dunn went on to score on a wild pitch. Goldberg stole second and Buday drew a walk, prompting a new pitcher for the Violets.
 
Jack Miller singled through the left side to load the bases. Pellegrino hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Goldberg. Clayton Miller singled up the middle, scoring both Buday and Jack Miller for the 8-3 lead.
 
WashU added one final run in the top of the ninth inning. With two outs, Dunn reached on a fielding error, advanced to second and went on to steal third. Goldberg also reached on an error, scoring Dunn for the 9-3 advantage.
 
Buday went 1-for-4 with four runs scored, one RBI and three walks while Pellegrino finished 1-for-2 with one run scored and two RBI. Clayton Miller went 1-for-4 with three RBI and Chris Jacinto finished 2-for-5.
 
First-year Miles Quemuel-Labrador picked up his first-career win on the mound, going 2.1 innings with four hits and no runs.
 
Game 2: WashU 8, NYU 2
NYU scored first in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Nick Argenziano was hit by a pitch to lead off and then stole second. Mocklis singled to center and Burton drove in Argenziano with a sac fly to right field.
 
The Bears put two runs up in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 edge. With two outs, Buday singled through the left side and Mauterer homered down the left field line.
 
WashU added another run in the top of the sixth. Clayton Miller drew a one-out walk and Bernhard singled to right center. Mazone reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Clayton Miller for a 3-1 lead.
 
The Violets scored in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one-run game. Mocklis drew a lead-off walk and Burton singled to short. Tucker McDonough but down a sac bunt to move up the runners and Mocklis scored on a VanLandingham sac fly to left field.
 
The Bears exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Jacinto led off with a triple to right center and scored on a Jack Miller single through the left side. Dunn followed with a single through the left side and a Buday single to center loaded the bases. Mauterer was hit by a pitch to score Jack Miller and Pellegrino singled to center to score Dunn. Bernhard was hit by a pitch to score Buday and a Mazone sac fly to left scored Mauterer for the 8-2 edge.
 
Buday finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Mauterer went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Dunn finished 2-for-4 with one run scored.
 
Sebastian Guzman picked up his third win of the season on the mound, going 6.1 innings with eight hits, two earned runs and three strikeouts.
