Nwumeh Participates In National Bowl Game In Miami

From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis senior defensive lineman Nelson Nwumeh has been selected to participate in the Fourth Annual National Bowl Game presented by East Preps Sunday, Dec. 8, at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium in Miami. Kickoff is set for Noon (ET) on the campus of Florida International University.

Nwumeh is one of 100 of the best Non-FBS college football players from around the country who will participate in the annual post-season college football all-star game. The National Bowl is the only elite Non-FBS post-season all-star game that sees scouts from several NFL teams along with the CFL and arena leagues. During National Bowl weekend, players attend an "Athletes & Agents Conference" where NFL agents and sports insiders educate the players on the process of going pro.

Nwumeh earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior after leading the team with 79 tackles and four forced fumbles. He was also second on the squad in pass break-ups (six), and sacks (3.5). A three-time all-UAA honoree, Nwumeh is the 10th player in school history to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors.

He ranked first in UAA games only in forced fumbles (two) and tackles for loss (six), and was third in sacks (two) and fourth in tackles (26). Nwumeh made a career-high 10 tackles on three occasions, and finished his four-year career with 142 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.

Washington U. finished the 2013 season with an 8-3 overall record and made its second NCAA playoff appearance in school history. The Bears won their 10th conference title with a 3-0 record, and ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak.
