Washington University in St. Louis junior kicker Alex Hallwachs was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Hallwachs, a second-team selection, is the eighth Academic All-America selection in school history, and the first since 2004.

"Alex has distinguished himself in the classroom and on the field. He is the epitome of a Washington University scholar-athlete," said Washington U. head coach Larry Kindbom. "Alex has helped us win several times with his leg and his future career in medicine will help others win in their lives. We are very proud of Alex and his accomplishments."

Hallwachs, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, led the team and the conference in scoring with 72 points on 15-of-21 FGs and 27-of-29 PATs. He is fourth in NCAA Division III in field goals per game (1.5), and tied the Washington U. single-season school record with 15 field goals.

Hallwachs booted a career-best 51-yard field goal in a 50-20 loss at Centre College Sept 27, and tied a school record going 8-for-8 in extra points in the 59-19 win vs. Hendrix College Oct. 11.

He earned UAA Special Teams Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 29, Nov. 3, Nov. 10 and Nov. 17, and was named to the D3football.comTeam of the Week on Nov. 20. He was also named to the Fred Mitchell Award watch list.

A two-time Capital One Academic All-District and Academic all-UAA selection, Hallwachs has a 3.51 GPA while majoring in biology.
