From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis junior Alex Hallwachs was one of 36 kickers named to the 2014 Fred Mitchell Award Watch List, as announced Wednesday by the organization.

The list includes kickers from National Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The kickers were nominated by their colleges for excellence on the football field and in the community. Hallwachs is one of 12 Division III kickers named to the team.

Hallwachs, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection in 2013, was first in the league in scoring (45 points), field goals (eight) and PAT kicking percentage (95.5). He was 8-of-14 on field goals and 21-of-22 in extra points. Hallwachs kicked a season-long 45-yard field goal with eight seconds left in the Bears' 9-7 win at Carnegie Mellon University Nov. 2.

A three-time UAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week honoree, he is a New Dimensions volunteer via the Koaches 4 Kids organization, and also volunteered for eight weeks to help young children in the inner city developing leadership, self-motivation and teamwork skills through soccer.

Washington University opens the 2014 season at home Saturday, Sept. 6, against Ohio Northern University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Francis Field.
