Washington University in St. Louis Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced Wednesday that Chris Peacock has been named the Deputy Director of Athletics. Peacock replaces veteran Associate AD Joe Worlund, who was named the Director of Athletics at Graceland University.

"I'm honored to be selected as the Deputy Director of Athletics and look forward to working with our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” said Peacock, who begins work at Washington U. the week of Oct. 27. “My family and I are excited about joining the Washington University community.”

Peacock arrives on the Danforth Campus after spending the last 11 years as an Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Illinois. He currently serves as the Assistant Athletics Director in the Office of Athletic Development, a position he has held since 2009. In this role, Peacock was responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors throughout the state of Illinois as well as St. Louis, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. He also oversaw the department's Gift-in-Kind and Fighting Illini Jet programs.

Peacock joined the Illinois staff in 2003 as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, before transitioning to development in 2009. He also had stints as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Administrative Services at the University of Toledo (1997-2003), Director of Compliance and Student Services at Towson University (1995-97) and Assistant Director of Compliance at the University of Cincinnati (1994-95). From 1990-93, he was an Account Executive with AT&T.

“We could not be more excited that Chris will be joining the Washington U. family. He brings over 20 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, with past responsibilities including compliance, sport supervision, and fundraising. His diverse background will serve him well in the multi-faceted role of a Division III administrator,” said Whitman, who worked alongside Peacock at Illinois from 2005-08. “Chris made a tremendous impression on our coaches, staff, and student-athletes, and is enthusiastic about helping us advance the rich tradition of Bear Athletics. He will help lead our program with great integrity, judgment, and concern, and we are looking forward to having him on board.”

Peacock earned his bachelor's degree in business from Miami University (Ohio) in 1990 and his master's degree in sports management from the University of Massachusetts in 1995.
