From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team remained
unbeaten, as they traveled to Meadville, Pa. and walked away with a
73-52 win at Allegheny College, Tuesday, November 25. The
Tartans are now 5-0 while the Gators move to 3-2.
Two minutes in to the contest, junior Jason Sebak (New
Kensington, Pa./Kiski Prep) connected from long range to give
Carnegie Mellon an 8-6 lead, as the Tartans never trailed the rest
of the night. The Tartans led 18-16 with 11 minutes to play in the
half before freshman Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa.)
drained a three-pointer to start an 8-0 for the visitor's which
extended the lead to 26-16 five minutes later. Carnegie
Mellon maintained its lead and took a 32-23 lead after twenty
minutes of action.
At the break, sophomore Matt Hillman (Gaithersburg,
Md./Sidwell Friends) led the Tartans with eight points while the
Tartans shot 39% from the floor to the Gators 32%.
Carnegie Mellon used another 8-0 run early in the second have to
push its lead to 44-28 with 16:13 to play on a layup by
senior Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan). Five minutes
later, the Cardinal and Gray grabbed its largest lead of the game,
57-36, on a pair of foul shots by sophomore Chris
Shkil (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin).
The Tartans improved from the floor in the second and shot 57.7%
for the frame to finish shooting 47.4% for the night.
Allegheny shot 37.7% from the floor. Carnegie Mellon
outrebounded its fourth opponent of the season hauling down 36
boards to the Gators 33.
Sophomore Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) finished with a
game-high 21 points and seven rebounds to lead the Tartans. It
marked the third time this season the sophomore has recorded a
20-point game. Hillman was the only other Tartan in double
figures, as he tied a career-high with 10 points while dishing out
a career-best five assists.
Allegheny was led by Brandon smith and Evan Zabriski with 14 and 13
points, respectively.
