NYU Earns Win Over Brandeis on Senior Day

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's basketball team defeated Brandeis University 90-75 on Senior Day at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan on Saturday, February 28.

NYU (17-8, 8-6 University Athletic Association) honored its two seniors, Iyoha Agho and Conor Smith, on Saturday with pre-game ceremonies.

"Senior Day is bittersweet. I'm really proud and excited for them and what lies ahead," said NYU Head Coach Joe Nesci. "Both of these young men are quality people. They've always put team first. They are what NYU Basketball is all about. I'm starting to miss them already."

The Violets scored the first four points of the game and never trailed against the Judges (9-16, 4-10 UAA) en route to their 15-point victory.

NYU dominated the boards against Brandeis, finishing with a 48-26 edge in rebounding. That effort was led by Evan Kupferberg, who led all players with a career-high-tying 17 rebounds.

In addition, the Violets were efficient from the floor, shooting 52.5 percent (31-for-59) as a team. They also found success from long range, going 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from beyond the arc. Hakeem Harriswas 5-of-7 from three-point range and finished with a game-best 25 points.

"You always want to bounce back from a tough game whether it's home or away," continued Nesci. "We had a rough road trip and the guys were committed this week to getting back to work. I though our preparation was great and it showed today in the game."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Agho and Smith each started for their final regular-season game at Coles. Agho played 30 minutes, registering three points, four rebounds and two assists. Smith, in his second-career start, saw three minutes.

- Harris added a rebound and block to his performance, and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line.

- Kupferberg was 7-of-11 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line to finish with 16 points en route to his 13th double-double of the season and 22nd of his career. The junior forward also had an assist, a block and a steal.

Ross Udine had his most efficient game as a Violet, dishing out a game- and career-best 13 assists in 28 minutes. The freshman point guard also grabbed four rebounds and chipped in 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-2 from long range, and was 2-of-2 from the line.

"We really did a good job of sharing the basketball," said Nesci. "Our offense moved effortlessly for the most part. Offensively we were really sharp with 21 assists and I thought our rebounding was excellent in holding them to one shot."
