Hakeem Harris of NYU Named National Men's Basketball Player of the Week, Earns Four Weekly Awards

Hakeem Harris of the #23-ranked (D3hoops.com) New York University men's basketball team earned four Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, January 27.

The junior guard was named National Division III Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), was selected as a member of the D3hoops.com Team of the Weekhonored as the Athlete of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA), and named Division II-III Player of the Week by theMetropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA).

Harris was the driving force for a successful home weekend at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan, as NYU defeated two Top-25 teams. Scoring from both long range and drives to the hoop, the 6-foot-1 guard scored a game-best 24 points and connected on six three-pointers in each contest.

In the 91-67 victory over then-#4 Washington University-St. Louis on Friday, January 23, he went 8-of-16 from the field, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Harris also had three steals, two assists and a rebound. Then, during the Violets' 85-68 win over then-#21 University of Chicago on Sunday, January 25, he shot 8-of-15 from the field, 6-of-11 from three-point land and added two assists. He did all of these things while coming off the bench in both games.

The honors were the first of the junior guard's career as a Violet.
