Rochester Stands Solo Second in UAA After Win Over Washington

The University of Rochester's men's basketball team defeated Washington University this evening 77-64 at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

The Yellowjackets improve to 13-6 on the year and 6-2 in the UAA. Washington U falls to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in the UAA.

Junior Sam-Borst Smith led the way for UR finishing with 18 points and 3 steals. Held off the court for the majority of the second half with 4 fouls, 16 of his points came in the first half. Freshman Jacob Wittig had an impressive all-around performance finishing with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Senior Jared Seltzer added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman Michael Mangan finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds for the Yellowjackets.

Timely three-point shooting powered the Yellowjackets in the second half, where they went on a 9-0 run to take an 11 point lead late in the 2nd half. UR shot 45% from the field in the game and 44% from behind the arc.

UR's defense held tough in the 2nd half, holding the Bears to just 24 points and causing 17 turnovers throughout the game. WU only lead for only 00:25 in the game, while the game was only tied for just over a minute.

Kevin Kucera led the way for Washington University finishing with 16 points and 5 rebounds. David Schmelter added 14 points and 10 boards, along with Andrew Sanders who added 11 points and 8 boards.
