The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team closed out its home schedule with a 94-58 victory over New York University on Sunday, February 12. Twelve different Tartans scored in the win that improves the Tartans record to 13-9 and 7-4 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while NYU moves to 7-15, 2-9.

Carnegie Mellon shot a season-best 57.6% from the floor and from behind the arc (58.8% (10-17)) while holding the Violets to 31.3% from the floor. It marked the fourth time this season the Tartans shot over 50% from the floor, as they walked away with a victory in all four contests. The Cardinal and Gray continued their dominance on the glass hauling down 45 rebounds to the Violets 31.

The Tartans had four of their 12 scores reach double figures with senior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) leading the way with 19 points. Serbin also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to record his third straight double-double and UAA leading 14th. Senior Chris Shkil (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) chipped in with 16 points, had eight rebounds and recorded four blocks in the win.

Senior Joseph Cossins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) poured in a career-high 14 points while converting 6-of-7 from the floor, including two from behind the arc. Junior Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa.) finished the game with 15 points.

The Tartans started the game making four of their first five baskets and jumped out to a 10-0 lead four minutes into play. Following a three-point basket by NYU, Cossins first long ball on the ensuing possession put the Tartans ahead 13-3 and never saw the lead dip below double digits the rest of the day. Carnegie Mellon's largest lead of the first half came in the closing second of play when Maha scored on a layup, as the teams went into the locker room with the score 47-22.

Carnegie Mellon started the second half making eight of its first 10 shots and led 67-33 with 13:28 to play. With 4:46 to play, a fast break layup by Shkil gave the Tartans their largest lead of the game at 88-46.

NYU was led by Joe Timmes and Jack Heller with 12 points each.
