Washington University in St. Louis junior Jake Knupp finished the 2016-17 season as the NCAA Men's Basketball Division III leader in assist-to-turnover ratio. Knupp is the first men's basketball player to win a statistical championship since Sean Wallis was the assist champion in 2009.
Knupp had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.89, dishing out 88 assists while committing just 18 turnovers in 26 games played off the bench. He is second in all NCAA Divisions behind Monte Morris of Iowa State University (5.17).
Knupp recorded seven games of five or more assists, including a career-high seven in a 95-91 win at Brandeis University Feb. 19. He also averaged 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 34.9 percent from three-point range and 71.4 percent from the foul line.
WashU finished the 2016-17 season with a 21-6 overall mark and won its 14th University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in school history. The Bears also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
