Rochester Completes Weekend Sweep With Win At Brandeis

From University of Rochester Athletics

For the second straight road game in the UAA, the University of Rochester men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 78-51 win over Brandeis University on Sunday afternoon at the Red Auerbach Arena.

The 5th-ranked Yellowjackets (19-1, 8-1 UAA) jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead five minutes into the game and never looked back leaving Brandeis (7-12, 3-6 UAA) playing from behind all day.

Rochester was led by its three senior tri-captains as the only Yellowjackets in double-figure scoring.  Zack Ayers scored a team high 19 points on 7-11 shooting and grabbed four rebounds, Mack Montague added 17 points including three 3-pointers while Sam Borst-Smith finished with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Junior Tucker Knox chipped in eight points and eight rebounds while Ryan Clamage added eight points and five boards off the bench for UR.

Brandeis' leading scorer was Jordan Cooper who scored 19 points, including his 1,000th point of his career and also grabbed five rebounds. Jack Fay had nine points while Robinson Vilmont added 8 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

After the early 12-point lead for the 'Jackets which featured five points from Jacob Wittig and six from Montague, Rochester's offense kept clicking, reaching a 20-point margin with 6:22 left in the opening half following an Ayers 3-pointer. At the break, Rochester held a 46-19 lead, holding the Judges to just 28% shooting, compared to 59% from the floor and 50% from 3-point range for the Yellowjackets. The 19 points at intermission is the lowest by a UR opponent this season.

During the second half, the Judges never got within 20 points as the Yellowjackets posted their second straight start to finish victory. The win is Rochester's sixth straight and seventh in a row over Brandeis. UR now leads the all-time series with the Judges 46-15.
