WashU Rolls Past Carnegie Mellon on Senior Day

The No. 22 Washington University in St. Louis defeated Carnegie Mellon 81-57 on Sunday afternoon in the Field House. The Bears are now 18-6 overall with a 9-4 mark in UAA play.
 
WashU was led by a double-double from sophomore Drake Kindsvater who finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Hayden Doyle netted 16 points with six assists and graduate Charlie Jacob also finished with 16 points. Senior Kevin Davet reach double-figures with 10 points.
 
The Bears came out to score the first nine points of the game with four from Kindsvater, three from Doyle and two from first-year Yogi Oliff.
 
WashU continued to dominate offensively, as Doyle drilled a shot from distance and Davet put in a jumper to take a 14-2 edge with 16:12 on the clock.
 
Carnegie put in six-straight to cut WashU's lead down to six points, 16-10. The Bears went on to build a double-digit, 30-17, lead following a 6-0 run including four points from Davet.
 
Carnegie Mellon scored seven-straight to cut WashU's advantage down to one point, 32-31, with just over three minutes left in the first half. The Bears held off the Tartans and went on to build up a 41-33 lead at the half.
 
Davet opened the second half with a layup and Jacob netted a shot from distance to give the Bears a 46-33 lead just over two minutes in. A layup from first-year Will Grudzinski at the 15:54 mark extended that lead to 14 points, 51-37.
 
Back-to-back 3-pointers for the Tartans cut the Bears' lead down to single-digits, 56-48. WashU, however, went on a 19-0 run through the next six minutes, going up 77-49.
 
A 3-pointer from Jacob started the run at 10:20. Senior Nate Bloedorn followed with a layup before Jacob drilled another 3-pointer. Jacob and Doyle combined for the next eight points and Kindsvater hit a 3-pointer to close out the run at 4:10.
 
The Bears went up by as many as 29 points en route to the 81-57 win.
 
WashU outrebounded CMU 31-17 and forced 15 Tartans' turnovers.
