Mickey Bak of the New York University men's fencing team placed third out of 180 athletes in the junior men's sabre competition at the January North American Cup (NAC), which is being held from Friday-Monday, January 6-9, at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

Bak posted a perfect 6-0 record in round one, resulting in him being seeded #2 for the single-elimination round. The sophomore then won five consecutive matches to advance to the semifinals, where he was defeated by the eventual champion, Karol Metryka of Penn State University.

"Mickey had an outstanding performance today against top competition," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "It was great to see him make it all the way to the semifinals."

Matt Chen and John Filak placed 135th and 156th, respectively, in junior men's sabre, while Will Zhang (71st), Hans Engel (233rd) and Aatish Varma (T-251st) competed for NYU in Division-1 men's sabre.
