Judges Post 4-1 Record at First Northeast Conference Meet of Season

The Brandeis University fencing team opened its dual meet season today with the first of two Northeast Fencing Conference meets, held at Brown University.

The Judges were able to use their roster depth to get more individuals into action with three of the five matches against club opponents. Rookie Gabe Lobo-Berg (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Poly Prep CDS) led the team with eight wins against just one loss in sabre. Senior foil fencer Trevor Filseth (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) won all six of his bouts, while five others also had six wins. Fellow senior foilist Ian Quin (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) was 6-1, including a 3-0 mark in the loss to MIT. Sophomore Lucas Lin (Plano, Texas / Plano West) helped key the sabre squad's 9-0 win over Sacred Heart with a 3-0 record. Lin went 6-2 overall. The men's epee squad produced three fencers with 6-3 records, rookies Ben Rogak (E. Setauket, N.Y. / Ward-Melville) and Josh Shuster (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Staten Island Technical) and junior Garett Tordo (Framingham, Mass./Framingham).
