The Emory golf team closed out a fine spring opening weekend on Sunday by finishing fourth out of 16 teams at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational. The 36-hole tourney was played at the 7,057-yard, par-72 Callaway Gardens Mountain View Course located in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
The Eagles recorded a second-round score of 310 to finish at
612. Taking home the top spot was Oglethorpe University with
a 587 (294-293) while Methodist University finished five strokes
off the pace at 592 (293-299). Host Berry College was third
(304-303—607) and Washington & Lee (310-316) and Rhodes
College (314-302) rounded out the top five at 616.
Senior Johnathan Chen was the top performer for the
Eagles, shooting a two-over par 74 on Sunday to finish at
three-over 147 (73-74) for the tourney, good for a seventh-place
tie in the 101-player field. Senior Alec
Berens tied for 21st at 153 (73-80) while
freshman Colby Hipp made the team's most dramatic
improvement on the day, chopping 11 shots off his first-round score
to come in 44that 159 (85-74). Junior Alex
Wunderlich was one shot behind Hipp at 160 (75-85) and
senior Will Rothrounded out the team's competitors by totaling
a 163 (81-82).
