Four Carnegie Mellon Golfers Garner Postseason Accolades

Four Carnegie Mellon University men's golfers have been recognized for their play on the course his past season.  Senior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) along with sophomores George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) and Jordan Klodowski(Kittanning, Pa.) were named to the 2015 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America while senior Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) was named a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

This marks Qian's second straight season receiving all-region honors and first time in program history that three earned the distinction in the same season.    

Qian finished the season with team-best average round of 74.4 through 19 rounds with two tournament wins, three top-three finishes and four top-ten finishes.  The sophomore shot a career-low and school-record tying round of four-under-par 67 during the second round of the Hershey Cup to win the tournament.  Qian became the fifth Tartan, and first since 2009, to claim the individual medalist at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.  

Low garnered his second straight All-UAA honor at the 2015 Association Championships after placing ninth.  He finished his senior campaign with a 76.5 average in 19 rounds of competition, the second lowest on the team.  He recorded four top-ten finishes and carded a season-best round of 72 at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational.     

Klodowski had the team's third lowest average of 76.8 in 19 rounds of play while tallying two top-ten finishes.  The sophomore turned in a second-place finish at the Tartans' Edward Jones Shootout after recording the second-best two-round score in school history with rounds on 71 and 69 for a 36-hole total of 140.  The 69 he posted in the final round was his career-best round.

Fischler, who has a grade-point average of 3.89, ended the season with an average score of 78.6 through 18 rounds and two top-ten finishes.  He had a season-low round of 72 at the Hal Hansen Invitational and was a second-team All-UAA honoree after placing tied for 11th at the Association Championships.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
