The New York University men's golf team has completed competition at the Hershey Cup, which was hosted by the University of Rochester in Hershey, PA, on Sunday and Monday, April 5-6.

The Violets placed 12th overall out of 16 teams with a two-round score of 659 (339-320). Franklin & Marshall College placed first with an overall score of 604, followed by Skidmore College (613) and St. John Fisher College (619).

"We were better today overall, but we had a very hard time on the greens," said NYU Head Coach Todd Kolean. "We took way too many putts, so we know what we need to work on leading into next weekend's home tournament."

Matthew Gjonaj was NYU's top finisher during the tournament, shooting a two-round score of 161 (81-80) to finish tied for 39th overall out of 87 golfers.

George Qian of Carnegie Mellon University won the individual title with a one-under-par 141.

Highlights:

Charles Van Cook was a consistent performer for the Violets, shooting 81-81 and finishing tied for 45th place with an overall score of 162.

Christopher Nolte shot 78 on Monday and also finished at 162 following his 84 on Sunday.

Hartej Gill shot 166 overall (86-80) and took 58th place.

- NYU's fifth scorer was Daniel Lynch, who finished tied for 76th (88-86, 174).

"We know we are better than we played," Kolean said. "Chris had a few good rounds and Charles and Matt were solid, but we caught a few bad breaks."
