Tartans Stand 11th After Opening Round at Jekyll Island Collegiate

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in a tie for 11th-place following the first round of the 16th Annual Jekyll Collegiate Invitational played on Friday, March 13.  The Tartans turned in a team score of 302 in a field of 30 teams. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

Sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) led the Tartans with a first-round one-over par 73 on the 6,711-yard course.  Qian is tied for 22nd individually out of a field of 150 golfers. Seniors Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) and Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) both entered the clubhouse with rounds of 76.

Finishing a stroke back of the seniors was sophomore Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.) with a 77 followed by fellow sophomore Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) with a 79.

Carnegie Mellon had three individuals play on the par-72 Oleander Course. Sophomore Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) carded a 79 to lead the trio while freshmen Nikhil Mohan(Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) and Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) had rounds of 80 and 84, respectively.
