Yellowjackets End 7th At Hershey Cup

The University of Rochester golf team improved its team score by 14 strokes on day two, but was unable to improve its position in the team standings on the final day of the Hershey Cup Tournament at Hershey Country Club.
 
Rochester managed to shoot a team score of 305 on Monday, but remained in 7th place of 15 teams in the tournament.

First round leader Franklin & Marshall College went wire to wire, holding off Skidmore College to take the team title.  F&M carded a 304 on day two, backing up a score of 300 on day one for a nine stroke victory over the Thoroughbreds (613).  St. John Fisher posted the lowest team score of the tournament with a 297 on Monday, finishing in 3rd place with a two day total of 619.
 
Leading the way for Rochester on Monday was junior G.W. VanderZwaag who carded a -1 round of 70, the lowest by any UR player in the tournament.  After a rough first round, VanderZwaag improved his position on the player leaderboard by over 40 spots, finishing in a tie for 24th with a two round score of 156 (+14).
 
Sophomore Jona Scott was the highest individual finisher for Rochester, ending in a tie for 11th place.  He backed up an opening round 79 with a 75 (+4) on Monday, finishing with a 154 total score.
 
Sophomore Garrett Sweeney ended in a tie for 28th after a 2nd round 81 (+10), totaling 157 in the tournament.  Junior Dominick Schumacher shot a Monday 79 (+8) and finished with a 161 total, good for 39th place.  Freshman Luis Arteaga rounded out the UR top-5 with a T49th place finish after rounds of 81-82=163.
 
Rochester was also represented with two players participating as individuals.  Freshman Corey Mitchener placed in T39th after a two-day score of 161 and Scott Chudacoff was 78th after back to back 88's.
 
Carnegie Mellon's George Qian shot the low round of the tournament on Monday, carding a -4, 68 score to finish the tournament -1 overall.  His 141 total score captured medalist honors by five shots over Harry Nodwell of Christopher Newport.
