Consistency Leads Rochester to 3rd Place Finish at Middlebury

From University of Rochester Athletics

Consistency paid off for the University of Rochester golf team on Day two of the 2014 Duke Nelson Invitational, with the Yellowjackets earning a solid 3rd place finish of 25 teams on Sunday at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.

Day two saw UR shoot a team score of 302, improving by nine strokes from Saturday's first round.  Rochester's two round total was 615, good for 3rd behind 1st place Rensselaer (605) and 2nd place Trinity (CT) (608). Host Middlebury was 4th and Salem State ended 5th.

All five of Rochester's golfers finished in the top 20 spots with sophomore Jona Scott leading the way with a 5th place finish after a two day score of 150.  He shot 74 Sunday matching teammate Matt van Niekerk who ended in a tie for 9th after a two day 153.

The other three UR golfers all recorded 77s on Sunday with Dominick Schumacher, Luis Arteaga and Matt Michael posting that score to complete the Yellowjacket round.  Schumacher ended tied for 13th with a 155 while Michael and Arteaga were T20 after 157 scores.

The 3rd place result is the second straight for Rochester to begin the 2014-15 season, as UR placed 3rd last weekend at the St. John Fisher Invitational.  Next week, UR travels to North Carolina for the Tournament Town Championship Preview at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro.  The Grandover Resort was the site of last years and will be the site of this years NCAA Division III National Championships.
